Understand why string breast implants are no longer available
String breast implants were developed by Dr. Gerald W. Johnson with one goal in mind and that was to produce as large a breast as possible. In some cases, the size became extreme and this created many complications and danger for women who had them implanted. String breast implants are made from polypropylene and expanded when fluids were absorbed.
Once string breast implants were surgically placed, they breast continued to grow as fluids were absorbed. This type of implant or breast augmentation was popular among adult entertainers. Because of the danger they created for women, this type of implant was available for a short time only before the FDA pulled them.
A much safer alternative to string breast implants are saline implants. A silicone elastomer sac is place under the chest and is then filled with a saltwater solution called saline. This is done using a valve on the sac. Once the sac is filled, the valve is removed and the surgeon closes the incision. Saline is a safe alternative but be sure to do your homework before you go ahead with any form of breast augmentation.
